And Away We Go

This is the first of what I hope to be many blogs about the trials, tribulations, and successes I have in creating an application for my mobile phone. This is no small task as I have and always shall be a Microsoft fan boy (apologies to Spock). And while Microsoft has Xamarin forms most of the underlying examples for making an Android application use Java. So here I am in the sunset of my developer life attempting to figure out how to use Java to achieve my mission. The first step on this journey is to pick a data store that can work on both Android and iOS (it may be years before I get to iOS but I want to be sure it will be waiting for me when I do). I have chosen Realm for the data store. My reasons for choosing this Api is the ease in updating schema. when there is existing data. That and the pending integration with MongoDB (a server based NoSQL database) and I think I will be set for the future. While my main goal is an inventory system for my wine collection it would be nice to leverage the metadata about the wine to a central data store so other users of my app could search and get information about the wine, winery, wine maker etc. But I am getting ahead of myself, walk before running. I hope you hang around for my journey. I hope I have the tenacity to keep this going and not abandon the cause do to the other activities in my life. I hope.
