Where’s My Cheese?

With apologies to Stanley Mack the author of the children’s book Where’s My Cheese this blog sums up my experience this week. I must admit that I do not have a lot of time in my week for this development endeavor and who knew it would be so hard to find a file on an android using Xamarin.Forms? Don’t get me wrong, to find a file on the internal storage of an android is pretty straight forward. But, I got wrapped around the axle on how do I create/find the file on an sd (Secure Digital) card? Xamarin.Forms and Xamarin.Essentials don’t offer a lot of support for this…er they don’t offer any support that I can find. I spent an inordinate amount of time searching for solutions here and I just should have said “put this on the backlog” and one day I will get to it. Here I am thinking too far ahead again. I know that my database may become quite large one day and I don’t want to store it on the phone’s internal storage if I can avoid it.

On a positive note I was able to create records in my realm database by augmenting the app to make new Wineries (doing the absolute minimum here to achieve the story requirements). I did not have time to test making a copy of the database on remote storage (in my case I am choosing OneDrive) but I found a link that looks pretty straight forward and I look forward (fingers crossed) to being able to demo this story next time.
